New CDC Masking Guidance

Silver Thread Public Health District is in full support of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s new guidance on wearing masks. In places where social distancing cannot be maintained, we would like to encourage everyone in our treasured communities to follow that guidance by wearing a mask while indoors in public spaces, regardless of vaccination status.

The Delta variant has become the dominant version of COVID-19 and has a higher transmission rate than the previous strain. Vaccinated individuals who contract COVID-19 tend to experience milder symptoms and are less likely to get hospitalized than unvaccinated individuals who contract COVID-19, however, they can still transmit the virus to others. Masks will help maximize protection from the Delta variant and help reduce the spread of the virus. It is also important in protecting those who are not yet eligible to get a vaccine, such as children under the age of 12.

Vaccines are safe and effective against severe illness and deaths from COVID-19, including the Delta variant. Getting vaccinated for COVID-19 remains our best defense against the virus.

If you have not already received the vaccine, it’s easy and free to get!
